Why the need to use a catheter?

There are many reasons why some people cannot urinate voluntarily and need to empty their bladder via a catheter. The nerve supply to your bladder may have been damaged; you may suffer from back problems or an enlarged prostate. Catheterisation may also be necessary after certain types of surgery, or it may be caused by a particular condition you were born with.

What is a catheter?

Intermittent catheters are fine hollow tubes inserted into the bladder to drain away urine. They come in different lengths and sizes for men, women and children. The most advanced catheters have a thin surface coating. When immersed in water this ‘hydrophilic’ coating swells to a smooth, slippery film making the catheter safer and more comfortable to insert.

Foley Insertion Tray Kit: Each kit has all the materials required to insert a Foley catheter. Choose your own drain bag and catheter size to meet the needs of specific patients. Each kit has a graduated collection basin and moisture-proof underpad and contains the following:

White-Rubber Drainage & Extension Tubing

Drainage and extension tubing is used to connect male external or Foley indwelling catheters to bedside urinary drainage bags, night drain bottles or other urinary appliances. Provides a snug fit on most standard sized connectors, adaptors and fittings while resisting kinks. Some include a graduated adaptor with cap, tubing connector and/or thumb clamp.

Urocare® Latex Urinary Leg Bags

For use with Foley indwelling and male external urinary catheters,

Urocare is the sole manufacturer of reusable latex leg bags, disposable vinyl leg bags and urinary drainage systems that incorporate the full advantages of our famous, patented Little Red Valve.

This remarkable anti-reflux valve is enclosed in a hard plastic housing which prevents the valve from being accidentally held closed when in sitting or reclining positions. The valve is virtually self-cleaning and interference free ensuring uninterrupted flow and problem free use.

Thereby, preventing back flow of urine, and reducing the risk of bladder distention and possible infections often incurred with the use of previous inferior products that have only an unprotected flutter valve extending into the bag.

The Standard Top Adapter (#6002) has a cone-shaped top with reverse grip which aids in the connection of rubber or vinyl tubing while providing a safe, secure connection. Removing the top adapter from the top valve housing exposes our famous “Little Red Valve.” This patented, anti-reflux valve is self-cleaning, obstruction free and prevents urine back flow – see above. A closer look at the valve housing reveals a large opening for quick, easy inspection and cleaning.

An improved strap loop design ensures a firm hold and accurate placement. These strap loops are an integral part of the bag, we use no glues or other adhesives which at a later time might allow the loops to separate from the bag. They can’t be pulled off without damage to the bag.

The Urocare® Night Drain Bottle is an effective bedside drainage system for use with Foley catheters, male external catheters, urostomy, ileostomy, suprapubic applications, etc. It has a large bottom surface area with a small corner radius so it cannot be tipped or pulled over easily and is simply transferred from one side of the bed to the other. 

Made of rigid, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this bottle may be cleaned and reused many times. An easy-to-open cap with a large opening makes it easy to empty and clean. We recommend Urolux for cleaning all reusable urinary appliance

Fitz-All® Universal Straps for Use With Disposable Vinyl Leg Bags

These universal fabric leg straps will fit most disposable vinyl leg bags and offer a vast improvement in comfort over the traditional latex leg straps packaged with most vinyl leg bags.

The Bardex® I.C. anti-infective latex Foley catheter is clinically proven to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Incorporating a technologically-advanced formulation consisting of Bacti-Guard®* silver alloy coating and Bard® hydrogel, the Bardex® I.C. Foley catheter dramatically reduces bacterial adherence and minimizes biofilm formation.

The occurrence of urinary tract infection is 3.7 times greater in patients catheterized with a standard catheter than in patients catheterized with the Bardex® I.C. Foley catheter with Bacti-Guard®* silver alloy coating and Bard® hydrogel

Bard’s Urine Drainage bags feature a rounded, teardrop shape that ensures more efficient drainage.

Latex-free and bacteriostatic drainage bags are also available. The bacteriostatic collection bag is impregnated with a novel antimicrobial agent that resists pathogens commonly associated with CAUTIs.

Their drainage bags are available in a wide range of sizes including larger capacities.

Bard® Dispoz-a-Bag® Leg Bags are made from heavy duty vinyl for extended wear, odor containment and leak resistance. Each leg bag contains an anti-reflux valve. Available with or without the Flip-Flo™ drainage valve which opens and closes with a simple flip. Reusable, sterile.
